OUTLAWED IN CANADA

Fascist and Communist Parties

OTTAWA, Wednesday, — Mr. Lapointe, the Canadian Minister of Justice, announced today that over a dozen organisations, including the Communist Party and the so-called National Unity Party–a Fascist party–had been outlawed under the Defence of Canada Regulations.

He told the Dominion House of Commons that these organisations would become illegal on the publication of an Order in Council amending the Defence of Canada Regulations.

16 ORGANISATIONS PROSCRIBED

Mr. Lapointe later placed on the table of the House of Commons an Order in Council proscribing a total of 16 organisations.

Besides the Communist and National Unity Parties, these include the overseas organisation of the German Nazi Party and various clubs for Croatians, Hungarians, Poles, Ukranians [sic], and Russians.

The National Unity Party is a black-shirted Fascist group, whose leader, Adrien Arcand, is at present under arrest on charges of breaking the Defence of Canada Regulations.–Reuter.
